Mount Vernon City Council’s IG law firm worked on ’09 campaigns

The Mount Vernon City Council hired Daniel L. Pagano’s law firm on May 19 to defend the council, the city clerk and a legislative aide in a lawsuit filed by Mayor Clinton Young regarding the council’s efforts to eliminate the office of the inspector general.

Pagano is known to some of the council members who voted to hire his firm at $185 an hour because he provided legal services to at least two council members during the 2009 election season.

State campaign finance reports show that City Council President J. Yuhanna Edwards paid Pagano $750 on Sept. 14 and $500 on July 22 for services rendered to his campaign.

Councilwoman Roberta Apuzzo paid Pagano $150 on Nov. 5,  $750 on Sept. 2 and $500 on Aug. 11 for legal services.
