Debating in the 19th

June
3

Republican Dr. Nan Hayworth of Mount Kisco, who received the GOP endorsement last week to take on Rep. John Hall, D-Dover Plains, today challenged the congressman to a debate in each of the 19th Congressional District’s five counties. The 19th C.D. covers all of Putnam and parts of Westchester, Rockland, Dutchess and Orange counties.

“This fall’s election in the 19th District is critically important. I am today inviting Congressman John Hall to a series of five debates, one for every county in our district. Only through vigorous, open debate—the kind this Congress has opposed—can we arrive at the most sensible and effective solutions to our District’s and our nation’s problems. I welcome Congressman Hall in discussing these vital matters, in locales where everyone in the District can see at least one debate,” Hayworth said in a statement.

“These debates will make even more clear the stark differences between the Congressman’s views and mine regarding the important issues in the 19th District.”

The response to Hayworth’s challenge?
“Congressman Hall is looking forward to vigorous public debates with whomever the opponent turns out to be,” said Patrick McGarrity, Hall’s campaign manager.

That is a reference to the possibility of Hayworth facing a primary challenge from Republican Neil Di Carlo of Southeast. Di Carlo received the least number of votes during the four-way contest at last week’s GOP convention.
“I’ve said since the beginning that I was going to primary no matter what happens,” Di Carlo said.

One Response to “Debating in the 19th”

  1. Hypocrisy

I was a John Hall supporter – that was when he promised to be a good progressive Dem. Then he went to DC and voted to extend military occupations around the globe, vote for corporate welfare and the continuation of failed Bush-era policies he campaigned against.

And, as if that weren’t’ enough, Hall is now refusing to debate. This is the same exact thing that sunk Sue Kelly’s election in 2006. She refused to debate her then opponent Hall, people wanted to know what she was hiding and she ended up losing.

This is why people hate politicians like John Hall. They become what they campaigned against.

Where is my main street third party voice?
