Pete Seeger to headline fundraiser for Brodsky
Folk legend Pete Seeger will headline a fundraiser for Democratic attorney general candidate Richard Brodsky in Cortlandt Manor this weekend.
Brodsky, a Greenburgh, Westchester County assemblyman, represented Seeger and other environmentalists in a lawsuit aimed at cleaning up the Hudson River.
“We started to get to know each other in a well-known lawsuit that helped clean up the Hudson River,” Brodsky said in an interview this morning. “He is the conscious, the father of the environmental movement if not in the world, certainly the country. I’m very proud of his support.”
Seeger, 91, is no stranger to political causes. The Beacon, Dutchess County resident has frequently supported left-leaning and progressive politics. Most recently, Seeger was in Albany to attend a rally pushing for the passage of a moratorium on hydraulicfracking—a controversial means of extracting natural gas in the Marcellus Shale region of the Southern Tier.
The event costs $35 for a ticket and is being held on Aug. 29 at 2 p.m. at the home of Marilyn Elie.
Brodsky is one of five Democrats running for attorney general in a Sept. 14 primary.
