Special-interest groups targeting Buffalo senator

Posted by: Cara Matthews - Posted in Uncategorized on Sep 02, 2010

Fight Back New York, a political action committee committee, has been hammering away at its chief target for upset in the primary—Sen. William Stachowski, D-Buffalo—who voted against the same-sex marriage bill that failed in the Senate last December. The PAC’s goal is to elect pro-gay marriage lawmakers to the Senate. Contributors to the group include actors David Hyde Pierce and Cynthia Nixon.

While Fight Back New York’s central issue is gay marriage, none of the radio spots or mailers it has sent out are on that topic. Instead, they criticize Stachowski—a senator for nearly 30 years—for thinks like pork-barrel spending he has brought to the district, his travel and per diem expenses and other issues.

Stachowski is also being targeted by the New York League of Conservation Voters, whose website states that defeating the senator is its No. 1 priority Sept. 14. The senator has a “deeply troubling voting record” on the environment, according to the league.

Below is Fight Back New York’s flier on pork-barrel spending:

Why don’t these special interest groups have the nerve to call themselves by a name that’s definitive and honest? This bunch calls themselves “Fight Back New York” when it is really a gay advocacy group. The “Worker’s Party” represents $120,000+ teachers and overpaid unionized government workers. Next, we’ll have the “Fairness Party” representing million dollar plus stockbrokers. I guess truth in advertising these days applies only to Proctor and Gamble and Sears.
