Engel, Weiner for Schneiderman

Posted by: Nick Reisman - Posted in Uncategorized on Sep 07, 2010

Attorney general candidate Eric Schneiderman landed two congressional endorsements—Reps. Eliot Engel and Anthony Weiner.

Engel, a Bronx Democrat, said in a statement that Schneiderman “is the only candidate with the experience, leadership and guts to deliver the real progressive change our state needs.”

Weiner, a Brooklyn Democrat and rumored New York City mayoral candidate, said ne has fought harder for fair wages, for equality and flexibility in the workplace, for foreclosure protections than Eric. We need a strong, lifelong progressive Democrat to fight for the working people of this state as Attorney General.”

Schneiderman, a state senator from Manhattan, has sought to lock down the endorsements of city liberals like the Rev. Al Sharpton and others who would be able to get an enthusiastic corps of supporters out to what is expected to be a low turnout on Sept. 14. He’s also trumpeted his public-employee union endorsements and the backing of the New York Times editorial board.

The other four Democrats in the crowded field include Assemblyman Richard Brodsky, D-Greenburgh, Westchester County, Bronxville lawyer Sean Coffey, Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice and former Insurance Superintendent Eric Dinallo.

Gotta love the term “progressive” that these big spenders like to throw around, as though they’re actually for progress.
