Giuliani backs Malpass

Posted by: Nick Reisman - Posted in Uncategorized on Sep 07, 2010

Count former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani in the endorsement column for U.S. Senate candidate David Malpass.

Malpass, an economist with Bear Sterns and former Reagan and Bush I Treasury Department official, is “a life-long fiscal conservative who has stayed true to his principles of limited government, low taxes and strong economic growth throughout his entire career, dating back to his service to President Reagan. I’m thrilled to endorse him as the next U.S. Senator because I know he will be a leader that New Yorkers can be proud of,” Giuliani said in a statement.

Malpass is in a three-way race to take on U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y. Giuliani, who is perhaps the best known Republican in New York, is something of a boost for a campaign that has failed to garner much name recognition or excitement among Republican primary voters.

He is competing against former Rep. Joseph DioGuardi, R-Ossining, Westchester County and former Nassau County Legislator Bruce Blakeman.

but dioguardi will get crushed in the general

The real blow was to Blakeman and Malpass when they didn’t get the Conservative Party’s nomination and DioGuardi did. Without them, no Republican has won statewide elections.
