DiNapoli: Don’t let Wall Street manage pension fund (updated)
The campaign of Democratic Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli is out with a new web video knocking Harry Wilson’s ties to Wall Street.
In the video, the DiNapoli campaign utilizes the “man on the street” technique and interviews New Yorkers asking them if they would want Wall Street to run the pension fund (the New Yorkers featured don’t think it’s a good idea).
“We knew that people didn’t trust Wall Street with their money, now we know that New Yorkers see Harry Wilson as representing the very worst of that risky Wall Street culture,“ said Mark Benoit, DiNapoli 2010 Campaign Manager in a statement. “When people know the most basic facts about Harry Wilson and his plan for the pension fund, they recoil.”
Wilson, a Scarsdale, Westchester County resident, is a former hedge fund manager and was an architect of the automobile industry bailout.
While DiNapoli, who is running for a full term as comptroller, has knocked Wilson for his ties to Wall Street, the Republican’s campaign has focused on DiNapoli, a former assemblyman, for being a creature of Albany.
Update: Bill O’Reilly, a spokesman for Wilson, called the ad dishonest.
“That ad is completely dishonest.“1. Harry Wilson does not want to privatize the pension fund.
“2. Harry Wilson wants less risky investments in the Fund (DiNapoli has lost billions of dollars in risky investments. He has under-performed the average pension fund, losing $8 billion in the last year alone.)
“3. Harry Wilson has never been forced out of a job.
“If this is where Albany Tom DiNapoli is going, he ought to be totally ashamed of himself.”

What would happen if Wall Street managed the pension fund? Gee, I don’t know. What would happen if a giant tomato attacked Brooklyn?
What a dumb commercial – you set up a mythical situation then film random peoples’ heavily edited responses.
Tom DiNapoli is still not qualified to handle the state’s money because he’s a political hack – appointed only because he was an assembly member loyal to Shelly Silver.
Every editorial board in the state screamed when Silver forced him on the public and I don’t care if Tom DiNapoli gets Wes Craven or Stephen King to produce his next spot, it doesn’t change that fact. The guy is a bought and sold flunky for Shelly Silver.
VOTE THEM ALL OUT! If they’re in Albany now – they gotta go!
Thats the most ridiculous ad I’ve ever seen. OMG, a financial expert is running for comptroller? What’s next? Doctors doing checkups?
