Wilson Gets Giuliani, Unshackle Upstate Nod

Posted by: Nick Reisman - Posted in Uncategorized on Oct 21, 2010

Republican comptroller hopeful Harry Wilson today picked up the endorsement of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and the pro-business group Unshackle Upstate.

“Harry Wilson is an extremely impressive individual with the ideal qualifications to serve as our next state comptroller,” Giuliani said in a statement. “He understands how to make broken organizations work again, and there is no entity more broken right now than New York State government. I believe that the voters will recognize the enormous potential that Harry brings to the table, and they will elect him overwhelmingly in November. Harry Wilson has the skills to revolutionize the function of the New York State comptroller’s office to better serve the taxpayers.”

One of the more recent candidates Giuliani endorsed for statewide office, David Malpass, didn’t fare so well. He lost a close primary battle against former Rep. Joseph DioGuardi for the GOP line to challenge U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.

In its endorsement, Rochester-based Unshackle Upstate said Wilson, a former hedge-fund manager from Scarsdale, Westchester County, “has been one of the most refreshing we’ve heard from any candidate for office at any level of government in quite some time.”

  1. Voter for Wilson

I’m voting for Wilson. The other guy hasn’t done anything after how many years up there?
I don’y likr Giuliani though. I used to no more.
But Wilson has my vote – and we vote democrat .

  2. jeffrey

Those democrats who wear blinders and vote kneejerk
democrat are going to be doing a great disservice to
the state of new york if they support dinapoli over wilson
there is no comparison ..wilson has financial creds dinapoli
is a political hack who was up to his eyebrows in
albany dysfunction before he was selected and whose own
calandar indicates he met with those involved with the
aeg aqueduct raceway preference…..he does not belong
    in office

  3. Jack

Hey Jeffrey! How bout those Democrats who vote Democratic because they believe in progressive ideas, and are sick and tired of arch-conservatives who hate government and everybody associated with it.

Democrats: do you really want to go back to Wall Street control? If so, vote for Wilson.

  4. yeah right

@Jack – Democrat here – but well informed enough to know our pension fund is invested by “Wall Street” right now. And it’s invested in some pretty risky ventures and we’ve paid nearly $1 billion in the last 3 years for the privilege of having them manage it.

You know – those Wall Street Wizards that Tom DiNapoli deplores?
That’s right – when hypocrite Tom DiNapoli rails about not letting Wall Street near the fund – he doesn’t tell you they’re up to their elbows in it now.
I don’t hate government. I love my government and want it to be lead by honest qualified intelligent people who lead the fine civil servants they employ and not populate the agencies with girlfriends, loyal hacks and half wit relatives—appointees all.
Tom DiNapoli is a 20 year Assembly member from a legislature whose latest crime is AEG – in which his boss Shelly Silver is implicated.
Progressive ideas can’t flourish in a corrupt, greedy, organized crime ring paying a disproportionate share of our tax dollars to the people who get them elected.
Harry Wilson is no arch conservative. He stepped up to help Barack Obama in his all important first year of his presidency.
Nationally known Democrats like Howard Wolfson say NY would be lucky to have him.
I’m voting for someone fresh over a 23 year Yes man.
