Thompson Not Ready To Concede In Contested Senate Race
Sen. Antonie Thompson, D-Buffalo, said today that he’s not planning to concede in his race for Senate, one of three outstanding races that will decide control of the state Senate next year.
“It’s too premature,” Thompson said today at the state Capitol when asked if he’s planning to concede. “There’s still a lot of ballots out there and some people want us to do a hand count and we’ll see.”
Thompson trails Republican Mark Grisanti by 527 votes, and Thompson said lawyers were discussing the next move.
Asked later by reporters if he has the money to fund the cost of continued legal challenges, including a hand recount, Thompson said: “I’ll raise money when we got to do those things. We have money.”
In another tight Senate race, Sen. Suzi Oppenheimer, D-Mamaroneck, Westchester County, said she’s confident she will win. She estimated she’s up about 285 votes, down from about a 400-vote lead as of last week. over Republican Bob Cohen.
She said the areas that have been counted in recent days were the more Republican areas and that her lead should expand.
“I have consistently been ahead throughout the process,” she said. “I’m hopeful they can complete this process in the next couple of days and continue the work we are doing.”
Republicans expect to win Thompson’s seat and a Long Island seat currently held by Democrat Sen. Craig Johnson to take over the majority, with Oppenheimer’s seat less likely to be won by Republicans. In the Thompson and Johnson races, Republicans hold leads.

Suzi Oppenheimer lead is less than Thompson’s and the “Fat” Lady will be singing in Buffalo soon, then Long Island for the Republ-I-CANS, and with a little luck maybe in Westchester too.

The Legislative Budget is Too Damn High
Thompson may not want to concede now but Grisanti appears to be the winner here. Those helping Grisanti carefully planned a strategy for the Buffalo lawyer turned Republican. And I discussed the reasons in various post on my blog.
Hey ORACLE…Suzi’s gonna win. So I wouldn’t crow too much.
Go Bob Go! Shhhhhhhhhhhh, don’t anyone tell Suzi there aren’t any Republican districts in her Senate District, but its a good spin anyway. Bob’s closing in, let’s hope he continues to gain votes and sends Suzi into retirement!
Doesn’t anyone else find it odd that there’s NO reporting on the 37th Senate District race between Oppenheimer and Cohen? Newsday has daily updates on the 7th Senate Distric, but we get nothing. Very strange, let’s just hope Suzi isn’t printing up more Absentee Ballots to ensure her win.
Suzi Oppenheimer will win. We need to keep backing her because she will help us fight the corporate takeover of America. Last summer, Target stores lost customers because it donated $150,000 to a right-wing conservative’s political campaign. We need people like Suzi to help us push against that kind of thing.
