The Tea Party group Patriot Action Network is mailing in support of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s proposed spending cuts.
Gov. Cuomo points out that Medicaid’s exploding costs – as well as our exponentially growing education spending – are caused by flawed law and formulas that force huge unnecessary increases,” writes the group’s New York liaison director Carl Gottstein in a letter posted on the group’s website. “He’s right: this is a major reason for every New Yorker’s enormous, ever-increasing tax burden and expenditures.”
Add this group to the growing list of “strange bedfellows” who have voiced their support for Cuomo. Earlier, Conservative Party Chairman Michael Long announced he would support Cuomo’s cost-cutting agenda in a robocall campaign. This all comes as the expected backlash to Cuomo’s budget proposal will likely ramp up in the next few weeks into what will become a very heated and protracted budget battle.
Cuomo himself is gearing up for a fight by launching a fundraising drive in order to counteract some of the ads that unions, education groups and health-care organizations are expected to launch in opposition to his budget proposal.
