Sen. James Alesi, R-Perinton, Monroe County, said today that his decision to sue his constituents last month has been called “boneheaded. I think that’s probably a word I could use myself.”
Speaking in Rochester after Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy gave an address on the state budget, Alesi said the timing of the lawsuit was “atrocious,” and he has since apologized and dropped the suit. CapTon has the clip below.
Alesi was under siege by voters, fellow politicians and editorial boards after the Democrat and Chronicle reported last month that Alesi quietly sued the Perinton couple—who decided not to prosecute Alesi after he “entered their under-construction house, tried to scale a ladder from the basement to the first floor, fell and broke his leg” in 2008.
Alesi went on to bemoan the media “for the onslaught of negative coverage that I got for making that choice in my personal life.”
