Michael Caputo, the former campaign manager and political strategist for Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino said ex-Rep. Chris Lee’s swift resignation was a display of “remarkable crisis control.”
“I think that’s remarkable crisis control, whether it’s true or not,” Caputo told Buffalo’s WKBW. “He converted a hot political issue into a personal issue and now we’re moving on.”
Lee, a 46-year-old Republican from western New York, resigned his seat in the 26th congressional district after shirtless photos he allegedly sent to a woman he met on Craigslist were posted on Gawker.
Caputo, who knows a thing or two about crisis control in politics, said even though the shirtless photographs of Lee aren’t illegal, it was still a smart move to step down.
“Well I think as most congressman who will tell you and anyone who has ran for governor, no matter what you say or what you do it will become a scandal,” he said. “I believe by making this resignation fairly quickly he’s made this a personal issue.”
