Yonkers’ State of the City speeches require practice

Posted by: egarcia - Posted in Yonkers on Feb 18, 2011

Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone is expected to deliver his annual, and final, state of the city speech on Wednesday, and he likely spent considerable time preparing for it.

Amicone gave his 2009 speech on March 26, and a review of Amicone’s 2009 public calendar shows that he worked on it for about two weeks.

Amicone’s date book shows that his state of the city sessions began on March 13. He held additional meetings on the speech, abbreviated in the date book at SOTC, on March 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21.

Practice sessions were held on March 23, 24, 25 and the 26 during the day. On the 23rd it was the only activity booked for that day and on the 26 his daytime rehearsal was also his only scheduled activity.

The Journal News obtained Amicone’s 2009 public calendar through a Freedom of Information Law request.

On March 27 The Journal News described the speech as serious and at times grim, owing to Amicone’s discussion of  the Great Recession and its impact on the city’s financial woes.

    What’s there to practice?

“Citizens: I will continue to thieve until my last day in office. The joke’s on you. God bless you”

gee Practice makes perfect, Phil. Too bad you didn’t devote as much time to being a good mayor.
