The fiscally conservative Empire Center for New York State Policy has revamped its state Spend-o-Meter to reflect the state’s new $132.5 billion for the 2011-12 fiscal year, which started today.
So far today, the state’s spending has hit $185 million as it spins toward the $132.5 billion mark by year’s end.
The spending machine spins at the following rates:
— $4,201 per second
–$252,093 per minute
— $15,125,570 per hour
— $363,013,699 per day
— $2,548,076,923 per week
— $11,416,666,666 per month
As the group’s executive director E.J. McMahon points out, “Under this year’s budget, our state government will spend more every hour than 200 typical New York families earn in a year.”
