County redistricting talks to begin next week

County lawmakers are starting to carve up their districts in time for the November elections.
The Westchester County Board of Legislators is set to begin discussions on reshaping election districts using recent Census figures.
The Board’s Legislation Committee is charged with recommending a proposed map and will start discussions at 1 p.m. Monday.
“It is important for the public to participate in these meetings and make their opinions known so that the committees may consider public input as plans are drafted and discussed,” said Legislator John Nonna, a Pleasantville Democrat who chairs the committee.
The board has retained the services of Dr. Andrew Beveridge, professor of Sociology at Queens College and the City University of New York to analyze the 2010 Census population shifts and create the first draft of the county legislative district lines.
Two members from the League of Women Voters of Westchester County will also serve on a redistricting committee.
The public can follow, or provide input, through the board’s website, Facebook page or Twitter account.
A web page will also be created to access video, calendars, criteria and maps.
