Cuomo Hails Jobs Deal In Westchester
Gov. Andrew Cuomo praised the agreement today between a Connecticut healthcare software company and the state to bring 103 new jobs to Armonk in Westchester County.
AmkaiSolutions, based in Waterbury, Conn., and the Empire State Development Corp. said the company will add 35 jobs this year alone.
“Today’s announcement shows that the singular blend of talent, resources, and support that New York offers to businesses will continue to attract companies to our state and create jobs for New Yorkers,” Cuomo said in a statement. “I commend AmkaiSolutions for their investment in New York and for joining a growing community of high-tech industries in the Hudson Valley. I look forward to their further prosperity and expansion.”
There’s no bigger issue for the state that trying to revive the economy and bring more jobs to New York, which between 2000 and 2010 lost 134,600 private-sector jobs, or 1.9% of its employment. That’s the first decline in employment over a decade since the 1970s, according to the state Labor Department.
Cuomo has made job creation the key to his administration. He is planning to soon roll out economic development councils to boost job strategies in various regions of the state.

They didn’t just decide to move here because they’re Yankee fans. Exactly how much in tax dollars and special deals did it cost us for this bit of fluff?
More like how much they will save by moving out of CT. If you hadn’t noticed, the CT Dems have made CT a very unbusiness friendly state and are looking to make it even more unfriendly, not only for businesses, but the citizens of the state, too.
I could give a hoot about what THEY save; I want to know how much the taxpayer of NY kicks in.
Paid sick leave… llc tax… 20% surcharge tax… gas tax… generation tax… anti business legislature and governor is Connecticut….
Governor Union Puppet of CT had the grand plan in his budget of offering tax credits to the first five companies that brought 200 jobs to the state. Since he has been in office, Hamilton Sunstrand announced it is moving 200+ jobs to Poland and now Amkai is moving 100+ jobs to NY.
How’s that plan working for you Governor? The way I see it you are now looking for 1,300 jobs for the state. The Republicans should put up a billboard that lists the CT companies that have left the state since the Governor has taken office.
A total of 300 jobs lost at and average annaul pay of let’s say $40K. $12M of salary out of the state at and average 4% tax rate means a loss of $500K in state tax revenue which does not include sales tax losses.
Look out, here comes another tax increase from Governor Union Puppet to make this up.
Nice job Hartford.
It has only been five hours and I have to already amend my above posting. A company called Yardney from Stonington CT that makes battery technology has just announced it is moving to Rhode Island and taking 165 jobs with it.
Charlie Sheen is doing more winning than Governor Union Puppet of CT! When is he going to wake up. Now he is looking for 1,500 jobs
