Add the town of Brighton, a Rochester suburb, to the list of town halls that will be open on July 24 to receive marriage licenses from same-sex couples.
Rochester, Binghamton, Ithaca and New York City have also indicated they’ll be open on July 24, the first day the same-sex marriage law is effective.
From the town’s news release:
“We have been awaiting the passage of this legislation for seven years, and are pleased that same sex couples can now enjoy the legal rights and privileges afforded others in New York Sate with the right to marry” said Susan Kramarsky, the Brighton clerk.
The State fee of $40. is payable by check, cash or credit card. The Town of Brighton reminds all prospective couples that we issue marriage licenses by appointment and that every applicant must bring a birth certificate with a raised seal, government issued photo ID, and documentation of the dissolution of previous marriage(s).
