Harry Wilson for Senate? Not right now
Harry Wilson, a deep-pocketed Republican who ran a well-regarded but ultimately unsuccessful campaign for state comptroller last year, has been mentioned as a potential candidate to run against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in 2012, but his former campaign spokesman said that’s not in the cards … for now.
Republican strategist Bill O’Reilly, who has since helped Bob Turner win a New York City Congressional seat and was dispatched to Westchester County to help with county legislator races this month, said Wilson’s focus “right now” is on his work in the private sector.
O’Reilly sent me this statement today:
“Harry Wilson will serve the country in any way he can to get it through this fiscal mess. He was proud to lead the restructuring of General Motors, and he is currently a volunteer member of the federal Pension Guarantee Board to help deal with the serious pension issues facing the nation. His main focus, though, is in the private sector right now and it will remain there. If that ever changes, he will make that known.”
Wilson is well-liked among Republican leaders. Rockland County GOP Chairman Vincent Reda, the state party’s first vice chairman, said in a phone interview yesterday he’d like to see Wilson throw his hat in the race.
“Harry is an outstanding candidate, and I think if it wasn’t (Carl) Paladino on the top of our ticket last year, Harry Wilson would have been successful taking out (Comptroller) Tom DiNapoli last year,” Reda said.
Liz B. at Capital Tonight spoke yesterday to Onondaga County GOP Chairman Tom Dadey, who had similar praise for Wilson.

Are you sure Reda’s quote wasn’t “I hope he throws his ‘COAT’ in the ring.”?
And if it wasn’t for shoplifters like Vinnie Reda the Republicans wouldn’t have such a difficult time convincing voters to support the GOP. Parse the numbers, Vinnie, and you find your stupid fingerpointing and blame game for last year’s election lands right on YOU. You did nothing to help elect our ticket – unless you count stealing.

Ah, but as November again peeks its blustery eye around the corner of the northeast, all of you who criticize Reda are walking around trying to close a non-existent, somewhere lost top button on your raggity, threadbare Botany 500 overcoats while Vincent is snug and toasty in his less than one-year-old expensive Russian Broadtail.
