Mt. Vernon mayor-elect puts out call for resumes

Posted by: Colin Gustafson - Posted in Mount Vernon on Dec 12, 2011

MOUNT VERNON — Mayor-elect Ernie Davis is seeking resumes for people to join his new administration — and inviting current agency heads to re-apply for their jobs.

The former three-term mayor said Friday his recruitment efforts are in full swing with the formation of a mayoral transition team, and that he hopes to fill some key posts by his Jan. 1 inauguration.

Prospective candidates may email their resumes to transitionteam@re-electmayordavis.com.

The city “requires the best professionals to assist me in moving the city ahead, and that is our goal moving forward,” Davis said in a statement.

“I am confident, given the state of the job market and the challenges ahead in revitalizing our city, that we will succeed in attracting excellent candidates.”

The transition team is charged with advising Davis on new policies and initiatives, as well as helping recruit, screen and recommend experienced and qualified candidates for the many appointed positions that may become available. The group had its first meeting on Nov. 30.

Leading the effort is Vince Ferrandino, a city resident and former commissioner of planning and community development under mayors Thomas Sharpe and Ronald Blackwood. After serving in Mount Vernon, Ferrandino formed his own planning and development consulting firm, Elmsford-based Ferrandino & Associates Inc.

Ferrandino “brings a wealth of experience in municipal planning and administration to the table,” Davis said.

Serving as vice chairs of the transition team are:

• Rev. Darren Morton, pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church;
• Linda Rose, president of Fleetwood Realty; and,

• Marie Walker, a city resident and owner of a White Plains-based consulting firm.

He can start by cleaning house in the Department of Buildings. They are a bunch of rude lazy jerks. Clinton Young promised to clean it up, but it only got worse. Ernie, what will you do?

  2. Wishful Thinking

Who do you think was running things before Young showed up?

  3. gio

I’m glad ur back mr.davis u need to clean house and start with the dpw commisioner. Then u can get rid of the rest of those unqualified people young put in positions that they clearly weren’t qualified for. Let’s get mount vernon back on track

  4. Ring Around the Rosey

You can bet all he’ll do is remove the incompetents who didn’t back him and replace them with incompetents who did. Same old, same old.

  5. uh huh

the wartburg seems pretty happy with young and some of his ‘incompetents’. they honored them a couple weeks ago for all the assistance they received from his administration as they undergo expansion on the wartburg campus. but what do they know, right? not that this paper bothered to even mention it. look at the city website.

  6. uh huh

criticize the paper, get bumped from the main page.

Iif u think the wartburg home and the rest of the city are happy with young and his administration then you’ve been living in a different city for the past four years!!! Get ur facts straight and do a little research before u comment on things . The city was in a better place financially when davis was in office and that’s a FACT

Hey, gio, check your history. There are still missing millions that haven’t been accounted for.

  9. gio

If there are millions missing and mr davis did what everyone said he did wouldn’t he be in prison riight now? Exactly he’s not those were alll political moves to get him out and now he’s back go E D ur the man for the job

Spelling, lack of punctuation, and jumbled prose reveal an ill-educated mind incapable of understanding.

  11. uh huh

‘well he hasn’t been convicted’. at least his fans hold him to a high standard.

just because he hasn’t been yet, doesn’t mean it won’t happen.

  12. gio

For all the critics who say my spelling and punctuation is wrong open your eyes and look around mount vernon is in bad financial shape how do you support a mayor who destroyed the city we live in and I’ve grown up in open you eyes it affects us all don’t be ignorant its not politics but about the people
