Spano plea agreement

Posted by: Cara Matthews - Posted in Uncategorized on Feb 10, 2012

This is former state Sen. Nick Spano’s plea agreement with the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York. He pleaded guilty to obstructing the ability of the IRS to assess and collect income taxes by filing fraudulent returns. Spano will pay $42,419 in restitution to the IRS and $10,605 to the state.

So Spano’s attorney is basically saying that they had him on a lot worse crimes, but they would have had more difficulty proving these beyond a reasonable doubt. The most they could get him to plea to (iron clad) was tax evasion. This felony evasion was taking place while, like pigs in a trough, the Spano family lived off our tax dollars – just not paid by our state senator. Disgusting. I hope the Judge gives him the maximum fine plus jail.
