Fox News chief backs Kennedy, says he’s “a great father”
The president of Fox News is defending Douglas Kennedy in the aftermath of the baby scandal at a Westchester hospital.
Roger Ailes, the head of Fox News, said Kennedy, a reporter for Fox, is a “great father” who tells the truth. Ailes said he’s known Douglas and his wife Molly for 15 years.
“He tells the truth and his calm and gentle demeanor always impressed me,” Ailes said in a statement. ”He is the definition of a great father and it is a role he cherishes over all others. I support Douglas as do the independent eyewitness accounts of the event. It is unfortunate that what appears to be a father’s defensive maneuver to protect his newborn baby has been twisted because of his famous name. In my view, the real moral of this story should be don’t try to grab a baby from the arms of a loving father.”
Kennedy, son of Robert F. Kennedy, is accused of kicking a maternity ward nurse and grabbing another one at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco while trying to take his 2-day-old son, Bo, out for “fresh air.”
The 44-year-old Chappaqua resident is facing a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of physical harassment, violations, after he was told that he couldn’t take his newborn out of the hospital’s maternity unit, but tried to anyway.
Kennedy and his wife called the allegations “sickening” and hoped Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore would understand that she made “a grave error in making a crime out of a father protecting his baby.”

Ailes and Kennedy seem to think that the rules were made for everyone but them and other assorted elites, and that any rule that interferes with their inflated egos should be suspended just for them. Here’s hoping that the courts will gently set them straight, or, if necessary, harshly set them straight if they insist upon crowing about their special status.
As a RN for 32 years I want to know why Mr. Kennedy has not been charged with felony. New York state, Nov. 1, 2010 represented a victory for on-the-job safety. It was the day that the Violence Against Nurses law took effect, making it a felony to assault an on-duty RN or LPN.
For many nurses, including those in home health, dealing with violent or abusive patients and caregivers was considered part of their plight. The New York State Senate passed the legislation in January, noting that, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, nearly 500,000 nurses each year become victims of violent crimes in the workplace. Most commonly reported acts of violence include spitting, biting, hitting and shoving.
With the Violence Against Nurses law, nurses join the already protected groups of police officers, firefighters and emergency responders. A physical attack against an RN or LPN on duty is a Class D felony, subject to a maximum of seven years in prison.
Hospitals have rules and regulations about carrying infants/newborns without being In a bassinet and leaving the maternity floor as it is a high security area. Nurses are charged with the safety of the infants and patients under their care and many maternity wards are alarmed that if an infant is removed alarms sound to alert staff. Infant abduction is an ever present danger and parental kidnapping is an ever present danger as well.
What would the Kennedy’s have said if someone else tried to remove that infant and they (the nurses) didn’t notice. I am sure their feelings about the rules that are present for the safety of the infants would be vastly different and head would roll if the infant was kidnapped and removed without the nurses attempting to stop the abductor.
Are they above the rules of the regular people? Rules that are in place to protect those who cannot protect themselves. My question to Mr. Kennedy is what on earth are you thinking talking a new born out side farm”fresh air” IN THE MIDDLE OF JANUARY ?????? that couldn’t wait for discharge in a few days.
If my husband wanted to take our new born out for “fresh air” in January I’d have him duct taped to a chair before he could leave the room. I am a fox news fan…..until today. Shame on you Fox news.
