It’s official: GOP chooses Carvin

Westchester and Rockland Republicans have nominated Rye Town Supervisor Joe Carvin as their candidate to challenge Rep. Nita Lowey in the 17th Congressional District race in November.

Party members gathered Tuesday at Clarkstown Town Hall in New City to hold their convention and nominate Carvin, who announced he was seeking the nod just the day before.

Lowey, a Democrat, has served for the past 24 years.

The new 17th C.D. covers all of Rockland County and most of Westchester.

Lowey will announce that she’s managed to get $3000 in federal funds for partial down payment for a fire truck, $2000 for a community job-action non-profit, and $1500 for a synagogue, and she’ll coast in locally as has become the custom.
