With Opening Day today at Yankee Stadium, the union-backed Center for Working Families released a report that shows the Yankees’ political contributions as it sought to build the new stadium.
The New York City-based group said that the Yankees contributed $50,000 to the Bronx Democratic County Committee from 2005 to 2010. Top Yankee officials contributed $25,600 city and state politicians key to the stadium’s development between 2003 and 2006. Former Republican Senate Leader Joseph Bruno received $18,000 between 2006 and 2008.
The group is pushing for campaign-finance reform and public financing of campaigns.
The stadium received about $600 million in public subsidies, the group said.
