Maisano clashes with abortion rights leader over Westchester clinic access bill

At a meeting of the Westchester Board of Legislators Monday, Choice Matters President Catherine Lederer-Plaskett clashed with Republican Minority Leader Jim Maisano over Maisano’s decision to vote against a bill strengthening penalties for protesters outside reproductive health clinics who block access or harass patients.

Lederer-Plaskett attacked Maisano as having sought her group’s endorsement for years but voted against them when politically expedient.

“I don’t respect people who are dishonest and flip for their own benefit,” she said. Lederer-Plaskett put Republican Legislator Bernice Spreckman in the same category.

Later, Maisano called it a cheap shot and said the law was flawed.

“No special interest group tells me how to vote,” he said. “Absolutely none.”

  1. Clock Ticking on

Jim Maisano is going to implode.

He’s been running a game – being liberal to some people, conservative to others – and after a long time, people are getting wise. He’s lived off a quasi-liberal rep, but now, Astorino is calling the shots. WCLA can’t help him in a Republican primary in the South End of NR. And he’s sunk all his street cred on Bob Cohen (everybody knows Jim would be a far better candidate) just because Bob has the deeep pockets. Jim needs that Senate GOP paychceck.
