Budget Committee to subpoena Westchester budget director

The Westchester County Board of Legislators Budget and Appropriations Committee voted Monday morning to issue a subpoena to county Budget Director Larry Soule to compel him to provide original departmental budget requests for 2012.

Democratic legislators said, despite several requests, the information has been withheld. The departmental budget requests match the administration requests in the budget document.

Legislator Judith Myers, D-Mamaroneck, the chairwoman of the Budget Committee, said they need the numbers to do their job.

“It’s part of an open and transparent process,” she said.

But Legislator Sheila Marcotte, R-Tuckahoe, questioned the need for the subpoena and said it was a waste of time.

“Personally I think this is insulting and ridiculous,” she said.

Legislator Bill Ryan, D-White Plains, said the numbers are valuable because they allow the board to get another point of view.

“It’s the first statement by the department of what they feel their needs will be,” he said.

  1. Is this the same bunch who keeps suing the County Executive? Now they’re issuing subpoenas to staffers from their own government? God help us…

  2. Fully Functioning Cortex on

Yeah, that’s right–shame on those legislators watching out for all of Westchester’s best interests. Looking for answers and–can you believe it?–budget numbers from close-lipped backroom deal makers. Who do these legislators, with their questions and fact-finding follies, think they are? I, too, am entirely ashamed of our public servants showing up for meetings and sitting there and doing their jobs. How selfish of them.
