Westchester introduces prescription discount program

Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino will announce Tuesday that the county is joining the ProAct Prescription Drug Discount Program, a free program that gives discounts on drugs to residents who do not have insurance or whose insurance doesn’t cover particular drugs.

ProAct will be mailing out cards to every household in the county starting Monday, according to a statement from the county. They cannot be used with any other insurance or to discount copays. The cards provide savings of 10 to 20 percent on brand name drugs and 20 to 70 percent on generics through ProAct’s negotiated discount rates with participating pharmacies.
