Yonkers mayor to name new fire commish

YONKERS — Mayor Mike Spano will announce his nomination for the city’s next fire commissioner at 2 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 40 S. Broadway. The nominee must be confirmed by the Yonkers City Council.

New York City Fire Chief of Operation Robert Sweeney, a 32-year FDNY veteran, is in the running for the job. The Yonkers mayor’s spokeswoman declined to say whether anybody else is being considered.

Yonkers is seeking to replace former Fire Commissioner George Kielb, a 32-year veteran of the Yonkers department who resigned in late June, just six months after being appointed by Spano. His departure came as relations deteriorated between firefighters and Spano over the mayor’s plan to trim the department’s ranks and change its sick-leave policy.

This may be an “unethical act” without Prejudice of Law! At a time when there are General Election pending… And, since thr Position was ( vacant ) The Honorable Mayor of Yonkers; should have waited!,

This is not healthy for American Political Life!
