Valentine off 38th Senate District primary ballot

Democratic state Senate hopeful Grant Valentine is off the primary ballot in the 38th District after the state Elections Board tossed his petitions.

Grant, of Chestnut Ridge, had hoped to challenge incumbent David Carlucci, of New City, for the Democratic line in the Sept. 13 primary.

Grant submitted 1,596 signatures on his petitions, with objections filed by Carlucci and others.

A hearing was held Aug. 1 and the signatures were reviewed by a bipartisan team at the board, which invalidated 737 signatures, agency spokesman John Conklin said today.

That left just 859 valid signatures, which was less than the 1,000 required to run for the office. The petitions were ruled invalid by the board Tuesday, Conklin said.

Carlucci, who also has the Working Families and Independence lines, now faces Republican Janis Castaldi of Ossining in the Nov. 6 general election.
