Sen. Charles Schumer is holding a news conference outside Ralph Wilson Stadium at 2:15 p.m. to start an effort for funding repairs and upgrades to the aging facility.
Schumer is urging the NFL to alter its G-4 loan program so the Bill can get up to $25 million for the stadium upgrades. Schumer said that the Bills and Erie County, which owns the stadium, are working with Gov. Andrew Cuomo to finalize a new lease agreement. But Schumer said the loan would help ensure the Bills stay in Buffalo.
“I will do everything in my power to keep the Bills right here in Buffalo. Because of the their unique situation, the bottom line is that the NFL’s loan program to upgrade stadiums, as structured, is practically useless for the Bills,” Schumer said in a statement.
Schumer said the loan program should be altered to exclude the “due on relocation” rule, a move that would protect against a new Bills owner moving the team.
