Independence Party primary off in 93rd Assembly District

5

An opportunity to ballot petition for the Independence Party line in the 93rd Assembly District in northeast Westchester, Harrison and north and east White Plains was invalidated in State Supreme Court in Westchester Thursday, ending the only potential primary in race.

An opportunity to ballot line allows voters to write in the name of a candidate who did not get permission from the party to run on the line. Democrat David Buchwald is the endorsed Independence Party candidate. He is also on the Democratic and Working Families Party lines.

Incumbent Republican Bob Castelli is on the Republican and Conservative lines.

To be successful, the petition needed 184 valid signatures; 285 were submitted and in the end it fell 10 short.

  2. just the facts on

ABOLISH CROSS ENDORSEMENTS BY MINOR PARTIES..ONLY SIX STATES ALLOW IT BECAUSE
IT OPENS THE DOOR TO POLITICAL EXTORTION AND EMASCULATES THE MAJOR PARTIES
WHO SHOULD BE ABLE TO PICK THEIR OWN CANDIDATES ON THEIR OWN TERMS

  3. Until you can figure a way to keep minor parties from skewering elections by drawing votes from the party closest to their constituencies (see Nader, Perot)
cross endorsements are anathema, but necessary.

  4. are you kidding on

cross endorsements are NOT permitted in most states….why are they necessary…
each minor party is free to run anyone they want to ….Nader and Perot were minor party
candidates but cross endorsements were not in play…take a look at the transcript of
the chairman of the Independence party talking to a member of the county dss staff..and
    decide for yourself

  5. The “Independence Party” is nothing if not a misnomer. They hoodwink disenchanted, but uninformed voters into thinking they stand for something when they actually stand for nothing but self-promotion of their for-sale “leadership.” The Westchester Conservative Party fell into that same sinkhole until they got rid of the self-serving roadkill eaters at the top.
