Long Hits Gillibrand On Israel

As Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand gets set this morning to address the New York delegation in Charlotte, her Republican opponent Wendy Long is knocking her for the Democratic Party’s platform on Israel.

The platform this year didn’t include prior language that included “Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel.”

Long said Gillibrand should say whether she supports the party’s platform.

“The Gillibrand-Democratic Party Platform is an insult to America’s special relationship with Israel,” Long, a Manhattan attorney, said in a statement. “Simply bragging about killing Bin-Laden is not a foreign policy. It is not keeping Americans safe, nor will it keep New Yorkers safe, and it doesn’t reflect the special nature of America’s relationship to Israel.”

Sen. Charles Schumer is also taking some knocks for not articulating the Obama administration’s position on Israel.
