Yonkers invites residents to vote on new city logo

YONKERS – The city has opened its “YoLogo” design contest to public voting.

Mayor Mike Spano today said residents may visit the city’s Facebook page and “Like” their favorite design for the next official City of Yonkers logo through Oct. 5.

In May, Spano put out a call for residents ages 12 and up to submit designs for the logo, calling it a chance to “rebrand” the hilly city.

“We have received some great designs from residents taking pride in our city by showcasing Yonkers’ diversity, history and beauty,” Spano said. “We are now inviting all residents to give their feedback on the design that best represents our city as its official logo.”

The City Council will pick a winner at its Oct. 23 meeting after reviewing the three designs with the most “Likes.”

The winning logo won’t replace the formal Yonkers corporation seal, featuring George Washington’s venerable profile, which appears on things like city cars and official letterhead. But it will be displayed in places like the city’s homepage, its social media sites and other promotional items.

  1. Rename it Southwest and drop Y—— altogether.

This place needs all of us to start saying positive thing about where we live and work and a new name is the 1st thing they should have decided on

    Look at Sleepy Hollow
    Look at Rye Brook

  2. The post is very good and very useful for new designers. I am sure that by the contest, the city will find some great new designers. But I think these designing contests should held world widely.
