Representatives from 14 groups opposing hydrofracking have again mailed Gov. Andrew Cuomo today, calling on him to reject natural-gas drilling in favor of renewable energy sources.
The signees include Bill McKibben, the highly influential environmental organizer and founder of 350.org who was in Albany earlier this month to speak at a well-attended rally against hydrofracking.
“Governor Cuomo, your energy policy should promote policies that encourage the developmentof renewable energy and energy efficiency projects that do not threaten public health and the environment,” the letter reads. “We ask you to not lift the moratorium on hydraulic fracturing in New York State and instead embrace a renewable energy policy that will make us proud to be New Yorkers andcontinue to restore our faith and trust in State government.”
Other groups who signed the letter include the New York Public Interest Research Group, Riverkeeper and the Working Families Party.
The letter essentially makes two points: Hydrofracking and gas-drilling are environmentally dangerous and not beneficial to curbing climate change, and that the technique is “stifling” investment in renewables. (The letter cites a pair of studies of hydrofracking’s impact on climate change, which have been the subject of debate and conflicting findings for months.)

Please, stop stressing our environment by further poisoning our planet. All the money in the world isn’t going to sustain your lives after the madness. STOP. Thank you to those activists who are putting in all their time and their own meager resources to end this unnecessary and evil practice. Make no mistake about it, it’s evil.
