In what is becoming an hourly update on the ads and barbs in the 37th Senate race, here’s the latest: a robo call from the pro-choice group, Choice Matters, in support of Democratic candidate George Latimer.
“George Latimer is a 100 percent pro-choice voice for women,” the robo call said. It adds that Republican Bob Cohen “is anti-choice and wouldn’t even stand up for women to have safe access to clinics. Vote for George Latimer on Election Day. Your pro-choice vote will make the difference.”
Latimer is clearly trying to make inroads with women in the Westchester County district, which has 10 percent more Democrats than Republicans.
A Siena College poll today showed Latimer with a 3 percentage point lead on Cohen, as well as an 11 percentage point edge with women.
Choice Matters, the Westchester-based group, said Cohen this year didn’t respond to the group’s request that he state his support for a woman’s right to safely access reproductive health clinics.
They said that in 2010, when he narrowly lost to Democratic Sen. Suzi Oppenheimer, Cohen refused to support the Reproductive Health Act.
