Rep. Louise Slaughter’s latest ad hits Republican opponent Maggie Brooks for the Republican plan on Medicare, saying special-interest groups that are supporting Brooks have “an extreme agenda to make drastic changes to Medicare.”
The ad seeks to refute ads by business-backed groups in the district, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and National Federation of Independent Business, that have been spending on Brooks’ behalf. Brooks is the Monroe County executive; Slaughter is a Democrat first elected in 1986.
“Maggie Brooks’ allies are parroting the same lies about Louise Slaughter’s Medicare record that Romney and Ryan are using on the president, and they’re doing it to hide their own plans for Medicare,” said Slaughter spokesman Eric Walker. “We’re setting the record straight for the voters — that Louise has strengthened Medicare for our seniors, while Maggie’s allies have threatened the program to give more tax breaks to millionaires.”
Here’s the transcript and the ad:
Who are the special interest groups telling lies about Louise Slaughter’s record? They’re allies of Maggie Brooks, with an extreme agenda to make drastic changes to Medicare. And the truth is, they’d cut Medicare in order to give millionaires a huge $265,000 tax break, cost seniors $6,000 a year, and even force seniors to negotiate with big insurance companies on their own. We just can’t afford Maggie Brooks or her allies.
