Obama: “I’m Not Worried At This Point About The Impact On The Election”

President Obama warned residents along the East Coast to prepare for Hurricane Sandy, and he said he’s not concerned about the storm’s impact on next Tuesday’s election.

“I’m not worried at this point about the impact on the election,” Obama said in a short briefing, in a response to the only question he answered. “I’m worried about the impact on families, I’m worried about the impact on our first responders, I’m worried about the impact on our economy and on transportation.”

He continued, “The election will take care of itself next week. Right now, our No. 1 priority is to make sure we are saving lives, that our search-and-rescue teams are going be in place, that people are going to get the food, the water, the shelter that they need in case of emergency and that we respond as quickly as possible to get the economy back on track.”

The president said he has spoken to the governors of each state involved. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he spoke to Obama yesterday.

Cuomo was expected to campaign for Obama in Florida last Saturday, but the governor canceled as the storm developed Friday.

Obama canceled a campaign trip to Orlando today and returned to the White House.

“This is going to be a big storm, it’s going to be a difficult storm,” Obama said.

“The great thing about America is when we go through tough times like this, we all pull together. We look out for our friends, we look our for our neighbors and we set aside whatever issues we may have otherwise to make sure that we respond appropriately with swiftness – and that’s exactly what I anticipate is going to happen here.”

  1. If Obama loses this election, you can blame/thank the Right for bamboozling him. How is it ethical that an entire news network questions the President’s citizenship for four years to create doubt in voters while a fringe element of the far right demonizes and degrades him? Most of this is financed by the rich who want to keep their stranglehold on the flow of wealth in our country.
