Gov. Andrew Cuomo at 3:30 p.m. will hold a news conference at his Manhattan office as he “makes announcement and discusses request for federal disaster aid.”

Last week, Cuomo indicated that New York’s damage from Superstorm Sandy would be about $33 billion [1], and that he would seek full reimbursement from the federal government. The New York Times [2] expounded upon that today.

The federal government is required to pay at least 75 percent of the costs from national disasters, with the state and local governments picking up the rest. Cuomo said the state doesn’t have the money to cover the storm’s major damage, and he said the storm already is expected to double the state’s $1 billion deficit.
