Binghamton U. President To Replace Cornell President on Regional Council

Cornell President David Skorton has resigned as c0-chair of the Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council and has been replaced by Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger, Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office said today.

The announcement comes as Cuomo is visiting Binghamton at 9:30 a.m. today to tour the Southern Tier and hear from the council — part of his statewide tour to the 10 regions of the state.

Skorton’s resignation was amicable, officials said, and he’s already taken on additional duties in the Cuomo administration. He was recently named chairman of the troubled New York Racing Association.

Stenger, left, was already a member of the Southern Tier council, but now he’ll be the co-chair with Tom Tranter, president of Corning Enterprises.
