Amtrak wants $336 million in federal Sandy aid


Amtrak needs $336 million in emergency federal funding as compensation for damage and operating losses caused by Superstorm Sandy, according to testimony submitted this morning to the Senate.
The request includes $276 million to provide enhanced protection of Penn Station in Manhattan and the surrounding tunnels. It also would help pay to beging design and construction of the system’s Gateway Program.
The other $60 million would cover operating losses.
