The new partnership between the Senate Republicans and the Independent Democratic Conference took what could be considered their first official act today, appointing a panel of lawmakers that will assess the state’s policies for storm preparedness.

[1]Five Republicans, three Independent Democrats and two Senate Democrats will form the task force, which will come with with “legislative solutions” to remove “roadblocks” for rebuilding communities and implement reports that will be issued by Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s storm panels in January [2].

The 10-member task force will be chaired by Republican Sen. Andrew Lanza, R-Staten Island, and the IDC’s Malcolm Smith, of Queens. Among the others sitting on the panel is Sen. David Carlucci, D-Clarkstown, Rockland County, of the IDC.

“As our state’s large-scale rebuilding efforts get underway, the Senate’s Bipartisan Task Force on Hurricane Sandy Recovery will be a tireless advocate for every impacted community and will deliver real solutions to rebuild those communities that are most in need,” said Sen. Jeff Klein, the Bronx Democrat who heads the IDC.

The two Senate Democrats on the task force? Sen. Joseph Addabbo and Senator-elect James Sanders, both of Queens.
