Sean Lennon, Yoko Ono Target Cuomo With NYT Ad

A collection of hydrofracking critics is out with a new advertisement targeting Gov. Andrew Cuomo, this time taking out a full page in the New York Times to get their message across.

The full-page ad — presented as an open message to Cuomo from celebrity fracking critics Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon — is on page A21 of today’s Times. Click the image at left to make it larger.

Among the groups listed as supporting the effort are the Sierra Club, Riverkeeper and New Yorkers Against Fracking, a coalition group.

Ono and Lennon’s opposition to fracking has been well documented, and the pair have also targeted Cuomo with a New York City billboard.

It’s also not the first time Cuomo has been on the receiving end of an anti-fracking message conveyed through a full-page ad. When Cuomo made an appearance in Charlotte for the Democratic National Convention, fracking critics took out space in the Charlotte Observer.

  1. Thanks to Yoko and Sean for keeping the media on Banning Fracking in NY. We need to ban this insidious practice world wide as well. Bring on the renewable energies that will keep us and the planet in better shape than the road we are taking now. Thank you again Yoko and Sean

  2. I appreciate Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon, and all the sponsoring grass-roots groups for getting the message out to New Yorkers and all others who read the New York Times. Fossil fuel use affects us locally and globally. Superstorm Sandy should be a wake-up call to stop promoting extreme fossil fuel extraction and put all our energies into renewables and energy efficiency.

Thank you Yoko and Sean for supporting the anti-fracking movement by using your voices and resources to help educate the public about the destructive effects of hydrofracking on our water, our soil, our air, our health, our economy and our communities. It is absolutely clear — especially after what we all experienced with Sandy — that we must abandon extreme fossil fuel extraction in favor of an immediate push toward the development of renewables if we are to avert the disastrous consequences of climate change.
