The State University of New York’s student leadership group released its legislative agenda for the upcoming session.

SUNY’s Student Assembly, a group of elected student leaders from each of 64 campuses, voted last month to concentrate on five goals when voicing their opinions to the Legislature: increasing base aid for community colleges; reforming the community college chargeback system, through which counties pay fees for students who are residents but attend college in a different county; reinstating the Tuition Assistance Program for graduate students as well as expanding TAP access to all students; supporting SUNY medical centers and allowing colleges to better meet on-campus housing needs.

“SUNY students are passionate about protecting the quality of their education and that of future generations,” SUNY SA President Kevin Rea said in a statement. “It is important to realize that every year we have to face new challenges. We feel that these are reasonable changes that our government can do to help students receive a better education.”
