The Highlights Of The State of the State


In Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s State of the State on Wednesday he pledged to:

— Bolster economic growth through development in technology fields, enhanced workforce training and reform of worker’s compensation and unemployment insurance laws

— Boost the upstate economy with three casino-resorts, a competitive $5 million marketing campaign and duty-free stores selling New York products

— Improve education by establishing full-day pre-K for the neediest students, extending learning time and requiring a bar-like exam for teachers

— Pass the country’s toughest assault-weapons ban

— Enact a “progessive agenda,” including legislation to reform campaign financing, chip away at gender inequality and raise the minimum wage

— Strengthen storm and emergency response by heightening oversight of utilities and readying coastal areas that vulnerable to damage
