27% Of NY Authorities Are Delinquent Filers

The state’s Authorities Budget Office oversees 568 authorities: 27 percent of them are delinquent in filing their annual reports.

The agency said today that 156 authorities have missed one or more deadlines to file their annual reports by Jan. 15.

“Delinquent authorities are those whose annual report or audit report has remained uncertified and un-submitted more than 90 days after the statutory reporting deadline, or whose budget report had still not been certified and submitted more than 60 days late,” the agency said. “As a result, these authorities are considered out of compliance with state law.”

The agency was created in 2009 by the state Legislature to better oversee the state’s vast lineup of public authorities—which incur debt and spend public money often out of public view.
