Senator Wants Ban Of Popular Performance-Enhancing Drug

Sen. Jeff Klein, D-Bronx, today is calling for a statewide ban of a popular performance-enhancing drug in the wake of Lance Armstrong’s admission of using PEDs.

Klein, who heads the Independent Democratic Conference, is announcing his proposal today in the Bronx. Klein has previously gone after Four Loko, the caffeine-laden alcohol drink.

Klein says that the state should ban DMAA, which is the active ingredient in many over-the-counter muscle building products.

Klein said he will release “hidden camera footage shot by his staff illustrating how some retail store employees are unwilling, untrained, or unaware of the risks that DMAA use can pose to teenagers.”

The Federal Drug Administration has warned about the side effects of the drug, and it has been banned around the world. The Pentagon banned the drug after the sudden deaths of three marines who had been using the product, Klein said.
