Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced today that an investigation led by his office resulted in a large cocaine bust, a foiled murder plot and charged 31 individuals in the Capital Region, Gannett’s Haley Viccaro reports.

[1]The “Operation North Star” crackdown led to a 226-count indictment and the Attorney General’s Office obtained more than $100,000 in cash and almost 2,000 grams of cocaine, which has a street value of $200,000.

“These networks created a pipeline of illegal drugs from New York City to the Capital Region that polluted our communities,” Schneiderman said in a statement. “Operation North Star shut down this massive criminal enterprise and stopped the flow of these dangerous narcotics.”

The 11-month investigation by state and local law enforcement agencies also resulted in the obtainment of three vehicles, a bulletproof vest and a handgun, which two defendants planned to use in the murder plot.

Schneiderman said the two individuals charged in the foiled murder plot, Emerald Cancer and Rondell Jackson, conspired to lure Santonieo Miller, Jr. to a secluded location to shoot him. They were intercepted due to wiretapped telephone calls.

“Today, the Capital Region is a safer place because of this teamwork, and I commend everyone involved with this case for their unwavering dedication and support of public safety in New York State’s Capital Region,” said Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings in a statement.
