Assemblyman on Purim blackface costume: “This is political correctness to the absurd”

Assemblyman Dov Hikind, D-Brooklyn, is dismissing criticism after he dressed up in blackface makeup as a basketball player for a Purim party yesterday.

“Yes, I wore a costume on Purim and hosted a party. Most of the people who attended also wore costumes,” Hikind, the 30-year Assembly veteran said on his blog. “Everywhere that Purim was being celebrated, people wore costumes. It was Purim. People dress up.”

Hikind is a leader among Orthodox Jews in the city. The New York Observer first reported about Hikind’s costume, which also included an Afro wig and sunglasses.

“I am intrigued that anyone who understands Purim — or for that matter understands me — would have a problem with this,” Hikind said on his blog. “This is political correctness to the absurd. There is not a prejudiced bone in my body.”

  1. I happen to be in Boro Park on Sunday and I too was dressed in a colorfully Coogi jacket wearing Yellow Shoes and my trademark multi colored glassess and which I wear everyday and it was great to see so many people enjoying the holiday.

A group of young people stopped me and asked if I could take there picture and I was happy to do it.

Them they wanted to take a picture with me and I was Happy to do it,

All is aout Hikind dressed up is just MORE ALBANY BS (Buster-Bruno-Spitzer-Seilaer)

Albany needs to CLEAN UP IT ACT, not Hikind, he was enjoying Purim.

I was walking in Boro Park on my way to dinner with a friend and not going to a Purim Party, maybe next time, you never know.
