Former Yonkers councilman joins council president race

YONKERS — Former City Councilman Liam McLaughlin has thrown his hat into the ring for Council President and plans to host a campaign launch at 6 p.m. Wednesday the Sprain Lake Golf Course at 290 E Grassy Sprain Road.

McLaughlin served 10 years on the council, including as Republican majority leader, until being term-limited out in 2010. Later that year, he lost a race for 35th New York State Senate District to Democrat Andrea Stewart-Cousins.

The current council president, Democrat Chuck Lesnick, is term limited out at the end of this year.

Also running for Lesnick’s job is former City Council candidate Michael Rotanelli, a Democrat who unsuccessfully ran for the council’s Third District seat in 2011.

Rotanelli, who owns Transit Auto Towing in Yonkers, released this video announcing his candidacy earlier this month: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Od2_WSriZ4
