YONKERS – Real estate broker and political newcomer Grace Borrani plans to announce her candidacy for City Council president at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Riverview Club Condominiums, 1155 Warburton Ave.
Borrani is a fluent Spanish speaker who grew up in Yonkers and graduated from Sacred Heart High School before earning a degree in accounting from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in the Bronx. She currently owns the Borrani Realty Corp., a Vredenburgh Avenue brokerage founded by her parents and serving Westchester and Putnam counties as well as parts of the Bronx.
A registered Republican who has never held elected office, Borrani says she plans to seek the Conservative and Independence parties’ endorsements.
“I’m not a professional politician, nor do I intend to become one,” Borrani told The Journal News. “I believe the city of Yonkers will benefit from my business experience.”
The current council president, Democrat Chuck Lesnick, is term limited out at the end of this year. Also running for Lesnick’s job is former City Councilman Liam McLaughlin, a Republican, and one-time council candidate Michael Rotanelli, a Democrat.
In a bio, Borrani says she helped found two Westchester-based business networking organizations—the Westchester Business Connection and Women of the Westchester Business Connection; she has a daughter and regularly attends St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s churches in Yonkers.
