The coalition of women’s groups pushing Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s 10-point Women’s Equality Agenda released a television advertisement Tuesday.
While the ad shows women, as they speak, men’s voices are heard. The commercial highlights statistics that demonstrate where women are not equal to men in society—they make less money, are less likely to advance to corporate leadership, are more likely to be sexually harassed or abused, are more likely to live in poverty with single children or in old age.
“Join the conversation,” the commercial concludes. “It’s time we speak for ourselves.”
The ad is the next step in a campaign for the agenda, which includes a controversial bill to strengthen New York’s abortion laws while also attacking human trafficking, domestic violence, pay inequity and housing discrimination.
The commercials will air beginning today in New York City, the Capital Region and Long Island.
